CBS BOARD MEETING – OCTOBER 9, 2017

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Treasurer Jeff Seidenstein reported that he anticipates that the congregation will have between 81 and 83 members this year. We have collected enough in donations to make up the difference between our current rent and our proposed rent at the new location but not yet enough to cover repairs and furnishings.

The Board discussed Worship Committee’s proposal of doing a post-High Holy Days survey to solicit feedback and see how to get the congregation more involved. Worship Committee is looking for new members. The committee will also finalize the name plates for the Shabbat prayer books.

Rabbi Halpern reported that there are 7 Confirmation students this year and 8 students in Hebrew school and bar/bat mitzvah training. The next bat mitzvah is Adah Mercer on Nov. 3 (not a regular service), and he encourages the congregation to be there to show support. No adults have expressed interest in participating in a B’nai Mitzvah class.

Rabbi Halpern is meeting with the new director of the Federation’s Next Gen program to discuss how we can be more involved with one another.

CBS is looking into involvement in the annual Interfaith Thanksgiving service, which is the Tuesday before Thanksgiving at Beth El Zedeck.

The results of the Jewish Demographic Survey that took place in our community last spring are in. Results are being presented at 6:30 PM on Oct. 30 at the JCC.  Everyone is encouraged to come to hear the results.

Martin Bard is stepping down from the Board because the Bards are moving. The Board is seeking nominations for a new Board member. We wish Martin and his family the best.

The Board is still working on details of the lease at the new rental property on W. 96th. Inspections have been completed.

CBS is involved in the Ann Katz Book Festival on two dates – the Oct. 26 Mickie’s Corner talk and the showing of the Holocaust movie Hidden on Nov. 2 at Keystone Arts Cinema.
