You’re Invited: Reverse Tashlich – A Family-Friendly Rosh Hashanah Celebration
Sunday, September 10⋅12:00 – 1:30pm
Holliday Park Nature Center
6363 Spring Mill Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46260, USA
Greetings!
Ahead of Rosh Hashanah, we’d love for you to join Rabbi Justin, Julie Singer, Mollie Tavel Kaback, and the JFGI for our first ever REVERSE TASHLICH – rather than throwing our “sins” into the water, we’ll help repair our local indy waterfront by picking up the litter in our community! This event, which is family-friendly, will give community members an opportunity to gather and give back ahead of the new year. Rabbi Justin of Congregation Beth Shalom will share a bit about the Jewish traditions and history, and a representative from Indy Parks service will share details on how the impact we will make.
Please RSVP and let us know if you’ll be joining us! Reply to this calendar invite and use this link

What is Reverse Tashlich?
Tashlich is a Rosh Hashanah ritual in which Jews begin the new year by symbolically casting off last year’s sins by tossing pebbles or bread crumbs into a body of water. In 2016, the college division of Repair the Sea (Scubi Jew®) conceived the idea of hosting a Reverse Tashlich: a beach cleanup to remove human “sins” from the water. Now, in 2023, we’re bringing this to Indy!
What will you be asked to do?
We’ll gather all the volunteers at the starting point of the cleanup. You’ll receive clear instructions on how to collect and handle the waste. We’ll distribute the necessary cleanup supplies to each group of volunteers, explain the proper method for separating different types of waste, such as recyclables, non-recyclables, and hazardous materials (if applicable), and build relationships with others in our community while doing good together.
