CBS BOARD MEETING – AUGUST 9, 2016

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The year is off to a good financial start, with membership dues already coming in strongly.  Lee Manders stated that he intends to email instructions for Kroger rewards. Kroger has already given us money with just a few people using it.

The October Board meeting will be at 7:00 PM on Thursday, Oct. 13, due to Kol Nidre that week. The November meeting will be on Thursday, Nov. 10, due to the election Tuesday night.

Larry Rockafellow made a presentation about the pilot Leadership Development program, which is due to start sometime in January. The three-session program will teach participants about the congregation’s history and structure, explore work and management styles, and tackle tough community-building issues. Initially just a few congregants will attend. The plan is for all Board members to have training.

We are now in possession of a new (to us) Torah, thanks to the congregation in Marion. The scribe in Chicago will assess its condition and repairability for us.

Worship Committee will hold the first occasional Saturday service on Oct. 8.. We will worship, eat, and study together. The committee will also start assigning High Holy Day reading portions, and Rabbi has been speaking with Andrew Mohrstein about the High Holiday music.

The Board discussed goals for the upcoming year, including greeting everyone at events, creating an updated strategic plan, holding some event every Shabbat, and discussing a building fund.

The Board also discussed possible options for a new, more permanent location that will better suit our need for a larger space.
